The incident occurred in Fairfield County around 3:50 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 7 on Haviland Drive in Trumbull.

Chief Greg Sanfanandre of the Long Hill Fire Company said Shaun Bogen, a town highway maintainer and firefighter with the same company, was working his snowplow when he noticed a garage fire.

Bogen quickly radioed for help and proceeded to wake the sleeping family in the house, Sanfanandre said.

Arriving firefighters found a heavy fire in the garage extending into the home, but were able to bring the blaze under control within an hour, the chief said.

The Trumbull Fire Department was assisted by the Trumbull EMS and police department. Mutual aid was provided by the Monroe and Shelton fire departments.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
